Public Discovery

Free & Read-Only

Access model: MCP discovery, public authority, canonical resolution, and public control-plane resources remain available without x402 settlement. Separate registered machine-readable resources may require deterministic class-specific x402 payment.

Current production state: The Atomic canonical-query class is active at $0.005 USDC / 5,000 atomic units for explicitly registered deterministic payloads. The Enriched relationship-query class is active at $0.025 USDC / 25,000 atomic units for explicitly registered governed deterministic payloads.

Verified query routes: The registered Robbie George Biography Plate™ Atomic and Enriched query routes both issue deterministic production HTTP 402 Payment Required challenges at their declared pricing classes. This verifies current challenge behavior and does not by itself represent a newly completed payment, settlement, or post-settlement HTTP 200 payload-delivery test for either query route.

Availability boundary: Registered and complete protected resources may issue HTTP 402 Payment Required. Known but incomplete resources return HTTP 409 without a payment challenge. Unknown resources return HTTP 404 without a payment challenge.

Rights boundary: An x402 payment grants one endpoint-level retrieval only. It does not grant training, embedding, bulk-ingestion, redistribution, resale, synchronization, private-dataset construction, derivative-dataset creation, commercial implementation, or Robbie's Razor™ framework-implementation rights.

Knowledge Beyond the Webpage

Why Naturepedia™ Is Machine-Readable

Naturepedia™ is designed not only to publish knowledge for people, but to preserve enough identity, provenance, structure, relationships, and governance for machines to discover and use that knowledge without reducing it to disconnected text.

Human Knowledge

The public website remains the human-readable layer: photography, natural history, field observation, ecological relationships, authored interpretation, documentation, and the larger body of Naturepedia™ knowledge.

Machine Resolution

Machine-readable discovery gives compatible systems explicit ways to identify canonical resources, resolve their relationships, inspect provenance and governance, determine availability, and select the smallest active representation that is sufficient for a specific task.

Preserved Context

The objective is not simply to make text accessible to AI. It is to keep authorship, identity, provenance, evidence boundaries, licensing signals, canonical relationships, and resource state attached to the knowledge as it moves between systems.

From Page Retrieval to Knowledge Retrieval

A conventional webpage asks a machine to retrieve a document and reconstruct what matters from the page. Naturepedia™ adds another possibility: resolve the intended resource first, determine the minimum sufficient active representation, preserve its governing context, and retrieve only the state required for the task.

This is the operating idea behind the Discovery Index: discover publicly, resolve canonically, retrieve deliberately, and preserve provenance.

Public Discovery Directory

  • Commercial Data License
Separate written rights for training, embeddings, ingestion, synchronization, redistribution, derivative datasets, and other commercial data reuse.
  • Framework Licensing
Separate architecture and implementation rights for private Plate™ systems, Graph Registries™, Knowledge Meshes, RRIP implementations, and enterprise deployments.
  • Architect of Record

Deterministic Machine Pricing

Naturepedia™ x402 Retrieval Classes

Protected production routes use fixed USDC requirements on Base. Pricing is assigned by the resolved resource class and registered resource state, not solely by URL family. Agents should resolve the intended resource, confirm availability, and rely on the current HTTP 402 Payment Required response together with the canonical pricing manifest rather than infer prices from route names, templates, or older documentation.

Verified production challenge:
HTTP 402  •  25,000 atomic units  •  gateway tier enriched

Production challenge verification establishes current routing, resource registration, access class, and deterministic payment requirements. It does not by itself establish that a new payment was settled or that a post-settlement HTTP 200 payload was delivered for either query route.

Fail-Closed Resource Availability

A valid route pattern, published class, or listed price does not by itself establish that a particular protected resource exists or is payable. Resource availability is evaluated before an x402 challenge is issued.

Registered + complete resource
→ eligible for deterministic HTTP 402 challenge

Known but incomplete resource
→ HTTP 409
→ no payment challenge

Unknown resource
→ HTTP 404
→ no payment challenge

Fixed Challenge Prices

Production HTTP 402 responses use one deterministic payment requirement for the resolved resource class. Price ranges, estimates, and prices copied from another endpoint are not valid production substitutes.

Active Class Does Not Mean Every Resource

Atomic and Enriched are active retrieval classes, but payment challenges are issued only for explicitly registered resources with complete deterministic payloads. Availability must be resolved at the resource level.

Unavailable Payloads

Unavailable protected resources are rejected before payment. Known incomplete resources return HTTP 409, and unknown resources return HTTP 404, without an x402 payment challenge.

Retrieval Payment Is Not a Reuse License

An x402 payment grants one endpoint-level retrieval of the identified protected resource. It does not grant training, embedding, bulk-ingestion, redistribution, resale, synchronization, private-dataset construction, derivative-dataset creation, commercial implementation, or framework-implementation rights.

Commercial data reuse requires a separate written agreement. Framework implementation requires a separate enterprise agreement.

Validation boundary: Atomic and Enriched query activation has verified production routing, deterministic pricing, registered-resource HTTP 402 challenge behavior, and the fail-closed availability model. The current Enriched verification confirms a production HTTP 402 challenge at 25,000 atomic units, gateway tier enriched, on eip155:8453 using USDC under pricing version 3.0.0. No new Atomic

Validation boundary: Atomic and Enriched query activation has verified production routing, deterministic pricing, registered-resource HTTP 402 challenge behavior, and the fail-closed availability model. The current Enriched verification confirms a production HTTP 402 challenge at 25,000 atomic units, gateway tier enriched, on eip155:8453 using USDC under pricing version 3.0.0. No new Atomic or Enriched USDC payment, settlement, or post-settlement HTTP 200 payload-delivery test was performed during these query-class activation checks. Historical x402 settlement and protected payload delivery remain separately verified on an earlier protected route.

Resolution Before Retrieval

Canonical Registries and Retrieval Pathways

Agents should begin with public discovery and canonical resolution, determine the minimum sufficient scope for the request, identify the smallest active resource class that preserves the required context, confirm that the intended resource is registered and available, and then evaluate any production HTTP 402 Payment Required challenge before authorizing protected retrieval.

Least-Sufficient Retrieval Rule

Agents should begin with public discovery and canonical resolution, then select the smallest active resource class that fully satisfies the request while preserving the required identity, relationships, provenance, evidence boundaries, and governance context.

These classes are retrieval options, not mandatory sequential steps. A client should not purchase or retrieve a larger resource when a smaller active resource fully satisfies the task.

Public Discovery — Free
Resolve identity, availability, provenance, and required scope before protected retrieval.

Atomic QueryAtomic Query — $0.005 USDC — ACTIVE FOR REGISTERED PAYLOADS
Use for a narrowly bounded canonical fact, identifier resolution, routing result, or compact canonical answer.

Enriched Query — $0.025 USDC — ACTIVE FOR REGISTERED PAYLOADS
Use when the task requires bounded canonical relationships, provenance, authority references, or structured enrichment beyond an Atomic response, but does not require the complete governed state of a Plate™.

Structured Plate™ — $0.25 USDC — ACTIVE FOR REGISTERED PAYLOADS
Use when the complete governed structured state of one registered and validated Plate™ is required.

Bounded Registry / System Map — $5.00 USDC — ACTIVE
Use when the task requires a bounded multi-record registry, taxonomy subtree, identity graph, or System Map.

Full Registry / Knowledge Mesh — $25.00 USDC — ACTIVE
Use when the task requires a complete registry snapshot, expanded registry, Knowledge Mesh, RRIP payload, or other premium protected state resource.

Selection rule: Resolve first. Determine the minimum sufficient scope. Select the smallest active resource class that preserves the information and governing context required by the task. Confirm that the specific resource is registered and complete. Then inspect the current production response. Only a valid HTTP 402 Payment Required response for the intended resource should be treated as a payable retrieval request.

Agent Operational Rule

Discover publicly. Resolve canonically. Select minimally. Validate availability. Retrieve deliberately.

Do not infer availability, price, or conveyed rights solely from an endpoint name, route template, published class, or documentation example. Resolve the intended resource first and inspect its current production response. A known but incomplete protected resource should return HTTP 409 without payment, and an unknown resource should return HTTP 404 without payment. Only a valid production HTTP 402 Payment Required challenge for the intended resource should be treated as a payable retrieval request. Settlement should occur only when the calling application has explicit authorization and sufficient budget.

Authorship, Evidence, and Resource-State Control

Governance, Provenance, and Canonical Authority

Naturepedia™ machine discovery is governed by explicit authorship, canonical publication, provenance, evidence classification, resource-state, licensing, and interpretation boundaries. Machine readability and successful retrieval do not replace those boundaries; they are designed to carry them forward.

Architect of Record

Robbie George is the creator and Architect of Record for Naturepedia™, Robbie's Razor™, Plate™ Architecture, RRIP, Graph Registries™, and the connected machine-readable governance system.

Authorship Conservation

Authorship Conservation Rules™ are designed to keep creator identity, source attribution, provenance, licensing boundaries, and governance context attached as knowledge moves between pages, registries, retrieval systems, agents, and downstream machine workflows.

Review commercial governance

Canonical State and Production Authority

Different sources answer different questions. Canonical documents define identity, meaning, governance, and published policy; machine-readable manifests declare current structured state; and the live production response determines the immediate availability and payment requirement of a requested protected resource.

Canonical Meaning

Use the canonical website record, GC-MRD-v2.0, canonical claims, and publication manifest to resolve authorship, definitions, framework meaning, evidence boundaries, and governance.

Declared Machine State

Use the current AI Catalog, pricing manifest, MCP metadata, registries, and other canonical machine-readable resources to determine declared versions, resource classes, routes, prices, and published machine state.

Production State

For a specific protected retrieval request, inspect the current production response. HTTP 402 identifies a payable registered resource, while the governed fail-closed model uses HTTP 409 for known incomplete resources and HTTP 404 for unknown resources without issuing a payment challenge.

Required Evidence Boundaries

Plate™ Interpretation

A Plate™ may function as an authored conceptual, navigational, or relationship artifact. Visual proximity, arrows, resemblance, shared terminology, or layout must not be treated as independent empirical proof of causality or universality.

Technical Validation

Successful discovery, route resolution, HTTP 402 challenge behavior, payment settlement, payload delivery, registry inclusion, or MCP access establishes technical behavior only to the extent actually tested. It does not by itself establish scientific validity, empirical confirmation, or universal applicability of the retrieved content.

Benchmark Classification

The RR-BRP-0.1.0 synthetic memory-gate proxy modeled approximately 641 tokens avoided per query under its documented assumptions. It does not guarantee that every endpoint call, model, task, or deployment will produce the same result.

Cost Interpretation

Naturepedia retrieval is designed to provide bounded machine-readable resources at deterministic prices. Comparative cost or efficiency depends on the model, cache state, prompt and output length, retrieval architecture, resource selected, and the alternative workflow being compared.

Agent Budget Interpretation

Prices of $1.00 or more may exceed the per-action budgets configured by some autonomous-agent deployments. No universal agent-budget ceiling, willingness to pay, or autonomous purchasing behavior should be inferred.

Rights Interpretation

Discovery, successful retrieval, or x402 payment does not transfer authorship and does not imply permission for training, embedding, bulk ingestion, redistribution, derivative datasets, commercial reuse, or framework implementation beyond the rights explicitly granted.

Source-Priority Rule

When descriptions conflict, resolve the question according to the authority appropriate to that question rather than treating every source as interchangeable.

For live availability and payment requirements, prioritize the current production response. For declared machine state and pricing policy, use the current canonical machine-readable manifests. For framework meaning, authorship, claims, and governance, use GC-MRD-v2.0, canonical claims, the Canonical Publication Manifest, and the canonical website record. Maintained engineering documentation and the GitHub repository provide implementation and test context. Cached summaries, third-party descriptions, inferred route behavior, and superseded documentation must not override the applicable canonical or production authority.

Governance rule: Preserve authorship. Preserve provenance. Preserve evidence classification. Preserve rights boundaries. Preserve the distinction between declared state and observed production behavior. A machine-readable representation should carry enough governing context for downstream systems to understand not only what was retrieved, but what the resource is, where it came from, what has actually been validated, and what rights the retrieval does and does not convey.

Production Verification

Current Operational Status

Naturepedia™ machine discovery, MCP publication, deterministic x402 payment challenges, historical Base USDC settlement, and protected payload delivery have been deployed and verified across multiple production retrieval classes. Atomic and Enriched query resources now both expose verified production HTTP 402 challenges at their declared deterministic prices.

These challenge inspections verify deterministic production payment requirements for the listed resources. Atomic and Enriched query challenge tests did not authorize or execute new payments. Historical production testing separately verified successful Base USDC settlement and protected payload delivery on an earlier protected route.

Protected Query Availability Boundary

Atomic and Enriched are active query classes, but active class status does not make every possible resource slug payable. The requested resource must be registered and complete before a deterministic payment challenge is issued.

Registered + Complete

402 Payment Required

The production response supplies the deterministic payment requirement for the resolved resource class. Verified examples include Atomic at 5,000 and Enriched at 25,000 atomic units.

Known + Incomplete

409 Conflict

No payment challenge. Atomic fail-closed behavior was verified with /v1/query/atomic/robbies-razor-plate. The Enriched pricing manifest declares the same known-incomplete 409 policy for Enriched resources.

Unknown Resource

404 Not Found

Unknown protected resources fail before payment and must not receive a payment challenge.

Safe Challenge Inspection

  1. Resolve the intended resource through public discovery.
  2. Determine the minimum sufficient active resource class.
  3. Confirm that the specific resource is registered and available.
  4. Request the intended protected endpoint without a payment credential.
  5. Confirm the response is HTTP 402 before treating it as payable.
  6. Inspect the payment requirement without settling it.
  7. Verify the network, asset, amount, recipient, resource class, pricing version, and manifest reference.
  8. Authorize payment only when the calling application has explicit approval and sufficient budget.

Production Response Authority

Canonical manifests and documentation describe declared and validated system state, but the current production response controls the immediate availability and payment requirement of a specific protected resource.

A valid HTTP 402 challenge identifies the payment requirement for the requested registered resource. A known but incomplete resource returning HTTP 409, or an unknown resource returning HTTP 404, must not be treated as payable.

The canonical pricing manifest, AI Catalog, OpenAPI description, Canonical Publication Manifest, AI Root, MCP server metadata, human-readable Discovery Index, and production responses should remain synchronized. When they disagree, the discrepancy should be treated as a synchronization issue rather than silently inferred away.

Validation Boundary

Current production validation confirms registered Atomic and Enriched query routing, deterministic pricing, HTTP 402 challenge behavior, and synchronization with pricing version 3.0.0. The Enriched Biography Plate query has been verified at 25,000 atomic units, gateway tier enriched, on network eip155:8453 using USDC, and the production challenge references the canonical x402 pricing manifest. These challenge inspections verify current routing and deterministic payment requirements; they do not represent newly completed Atomic or Enriched USDC payments, settlements, or post-settlement HTTP 200 payload-delivery tests. Historical production testing separately verified successful Base USDC settlement and protected payload delivery on an earlier protected route. Technical retrieval validation does not by itself establish scientific validity, empirical confirmation, universal applicability, or additional reuse rights for the retrieved content.

Agent and Developer Guidance

Naturepedia™ Discovery FAQ

Answers to the primary discovery, pricing, resource-selection, settlement, licensing, availability, validation, and interpretation questions for machine consumers.

What is the Naturepedia™ Discovery Index?

It is the authoritative human-readable directory for Naturepedia™ machine discovery, MCP access, AI guidance, canonical registries, pricing metadata, governance, provenance, resource availability, and protected x402 retrieval pathways.

Are the Naturepedia™ MCP tools paid?

No. MCP discovery and canonical resolution remain public and read-only. Separate protected HTTP resources may require class-specific x402 payments after the intended resource has been resolved, confirmed as registered and available, and returned a valid production HTTP 402 Payment Required challenge.

Which pricing classes are currently active?

Free discovery is active. The $0.005 Atomic canonical-query class and $0.025 Enriched relationship-query class are active for explicitly registered deterministic payloads. The $0.25 Structured Plate™ class is active for registered and validated Plate payloads. The $5.00 bounded subtree, Registry, or System Map class and the $25.00 full-Registry or Knowledge Mesh snapshot class are also active. Active class status does not mean every possible resource slug is payable; availability is determined at the resource level.

Which Atomic Query route is currently active?

The current verified Atomic Query route is /v1/query/atomic/robbie-george-biography-plate. It provides a narrowly bounded canonical identifier-resolution resource at 5,000 atomic units ($0.005 USDC). Its canonical internal route is /x402/query/atomic/robbie-george-biography-plate. The production HTTP 402 challenge has been verified at gateway tier atomic.

Which Enriched Query route is currently active?

The current verified Enriched Query route is /v1/query/enriched/robbie-george-biography-plate. It provides a bounded relationship-aware canonical response at 25,000 atomic units ($0.025 USDC). Its production HTTP 402 challenge has been verified at gateway tier enriched on network eip155:8453 under pricing version 3.0.0.

Which Structured Plate™ routes are currently active?

The current active Structured Plate™ routes are /v1/plates/item/commercial-data-license-plate, /v1/plates/item/commercial-intelligence-pricing-plate, and /v1/plates/item/robbie-george-biography-plate. Each registered and validated route uses the fixed 250,000 atomic-unit ($0.25 USDC) Structured Plate retrieval class.

How should an agent select a retrieval class?

Begin with public discovery and canonical resolution, determine the minimum sufficient scope, and select the smallest active resource class that fully satisfies the task while preserving the required identity, relationships, provenance, evidence boundaries, and governance context. Atomic, Enriched, Structured Plate™, bounded Registry, and snapshot classes are retrieval options rather than mandatory sequential steps.

How should an agent determine the correct price?

The agent should inspect the current production HTTP 402 Payment Required response and verify its network, asset, amount, recipient, resource class or gateway tier, pricing version, and pricing-manifest reference. Route names, cached documentation, and prices copied from another endpoint must not be used as substitutes for the current production response.

What happens if a protected resource is unavailable?

Naturepedia™ uses a fail-closed availability model. A registered and complete protected resource may issue its deterministic HTTP 402 payment challenge. A known but incomplete resource returns HTTP 409 without a payment challenge. An unknown resource returns HTTP 404 without a payment challenge. A route template or active class alone does not establish that a particular resource is payable.

Has x402 settlement been verified?

Yes. Historical production x402 payment challenges, Base USDC settlement, and protected payload delivery were successfully verified on an earlier protected route. The current Atomic and Enriched Biography Plate query routes have separately been verified through their production HTTP 402 challenges, but no new Atomic or Enriched payment, settlement, or post-settlement HTTP 200 payload-delivery test was performed during these query-class activation checks.

What rights does an x402 payment convey?

An x402 payment conveys one endpoint-level retrieval of the identified protected resource only. It does not grant training, embedding, bulk-ingestion, redistribution, resale, synchronization, private-dataset construction, derivative-dataset creation, commercial implementation, or Robbie’s Razor™ framework-implementation rights.

How do commercial data rights differ from framework rights?

Commercial Data Licensing governs separately negotiated reuse rights such as training, embeddings, ingestion, synchronization, redistribution, and derivative datasets. Robbie’s Razor™ Framework Licensing separately governs architecture and implementation rights for private Plate™ systems, Graph Registries™, Knowledge Meshes, RRIP implementations, and enterprise deployments.

Does the benchmark guarantee a fixed token saving?

No. The RR-BRP-0.1.0 synthetic memory-gate proxy modeled approximately 641 tokens avoided per query under its documented assumptions. Actual results depend on the model, cache state, prompts, outputs, resource selected, and retrieval architecture.

Does payment or successful retrieval establish scientific validation?

No. Discovery, machine readability, registry inclusion, MCP access, HTTP 402 challenge behavior, payment, settlement, or successful payload delivery establish only the technical behavior actually tested. They do not by themselves establish empirical validation, scientific confirmation, causality, universal applicability, or transfer of authorship.

What should an agent do if Naturepedia sources disagree?

Use the authority appropriate to the question. A disagreement should be treated as a synchronization issue rather than silently inferred away.
