"Petals Dancing Through The Air" came from spending time in a field where wildflowers were in full bloom and insect activity was constant. I was watching the movement closely, following how different species moved through the space, when a butterfly passed through a cluster of red flowers and briefly hovered in a way that aligned perfectly with the frame.
The challenge here was timing. The movement was unpredictable, and the window to capture a clean composition lasted only a fraction of a second. I had to stay ready, tracking the motion while keeping the background simple and controlled. The soft green field behind it helped isolate the subject, while the flowers grounded the scene and gave context to where the moment was happening.
What stood out to me was the balance between motion and stillness — the wings suspended mid-air, the flowers steady beneath, and the entire interaction unfolding quickly and then disappearing. Moments like this are easy to miss unless you stay with the scene long enough for the rhythm to reveal itself.
I’ve found that photographing wildlife like this is less about chasing a subject and more about understanding how it moves through its environment. That relationship between movement, habitat, and timing is something I continue to explore across my work in nature photography.
