In “The Ocean Tide Swells”, I stood along the quiet edge of the Maine coast as the sky ignited with deep reds and orange tones at sunset. The tide was moving steadily, but the surface near the shoreline remained smooth enough to carry reflections of the sky. I positioned myself where the curve of the shoreline and the silhouette of the pines would frame the water, watching how the light shifted across both sky and sea.
The conditions were calm, with only a gentle movement in the water. What stood out in this moment was the intensity of the color — the sky changed quickly, deepening in tone as the sun dropped lower. The reflection followed just as fast, stretching across the surface before fading. The balance between the dark shoreline and the illuminated water created a brief window where everything aligned — light, tide, and composition — before the scene moved on.

My seascape photography is built on returning to coastlines under changing tide, weather, and light — learning how water, wind, and terrain interact to shape each moment. What interests me most is not just the scene, but how conditions come together to create something that exists only briefly.
Over time, I’ve found that the strongest ocean images come from patience and timing — watching wave sets, understanding tide movement, and recognizing how light interacts with water. The more time I spend along the coast, the more these patterns begin to reveal themselves.
